Both were recently presented an award for their excellence in care as first responders. They will continue to pursue their EMT certification this fall.:)
It’s a great job…I’m the oldest in a large family and so far two of us are paramedics and one is an EMT. I met my husband through the fire department as well. Keep going with it, even when it’s hard–EMT certification is well worth it(and as a new mom, I can tell you that not only having many siblings, but also being at EMT helps A LOT. The RNs at the hospital when I had my son refused to believe that this was really my first child.)
By the way, if anyone ever tells you that you can’t work on an ambulance or fight a fire in a dress, you really can. I wear a uniform when I’m working(I work one shift a week on the ambulance to keep my skills up), but when I’m responding with my volunteer department I’m always in a skirt. I’ve really never had any problems. I’ve even rappelled in a skirt(we have a rope team). I had shorts on underneath, but, really, you can do anything in a skirt.
Hey Zach.. not sure if you remember me but we met on the bus going into Chicago a few months ago. I remembered you telling me about that show and I saw an advertisement about it and thought about you. I hope all is well and that you were able to find your way around Chicago =-) Keep in touch! Have a good one!
