A special note about these resources and links:
There are no perfect people, no perfect churches, and no perfect ministries. Often in our zeal to point out the errors and faults in others, we fail to consume the good that could make a lasting difference in our lives. Let’s each put aside our natural inclinations to criticize, being willing, rather, to analyze with wisdom and discernment. Recognize and dismiss those things that do not bear witness, but embrace those that are truth!

Hello Bates family. I watch the Duggar family all the time and the first time I saw your family on there, I thought surely they’re not from my town. After seeing another episode, I relized you are also from Lake City, Tennesse. I have lived in this area all my life and I am very proud to know we share a home town. I find the Bates and Duggar family interesting and inspiring especially since I only have one child due to a medical condition. We are very blessed to have him and to see him grow into a wonderful man. I just wanted to say hello from a fellow Lake City resident.

Thank you for listing all of your resources and especially your homeschool resources. We are transitioning from a Charlotte Mason type homeschool (for a variety of reasons all centered on raising a large family of Godly children) as our family has grown from 3 kiddos to 5 kiddos and as we have grown closer to the Lord and wish to closely monitor the children’s intake. Additionally, we needed a more easily manageable school format with the addition of the twins. It’s helpful to see what those with more kiddos are doing as we hope to add more to our team! May the Lord continue to shine his face upon you!
The McVay Team of Texas
P.S. I really like the note that you put at the top prior to listing the resources! As we have been transitioning from the mainstream we have notices negativity from friends about our choices. We shall keep our eyes focused on Him as we move forward and your little note was nice reminder that many of Matthew that we will receive criticism for the choices that move us closer to the Lord.

Extremely professional website. I just wanted to let your fans know that there is much more to your family than just what we’ve seen on the Duggars TLC show! My family and I have been blessed to spend some time with you, when your house was going up, and actually with the Duggars also. What you see on tv is just a small portion of what your family is. Both families are gracious, loving, and unbelievably fun to fellowship with! I think the thing that both of your families give to people, including myself is a sense of hope, a glimmer of what a life can actually be like if you just stand back, take a look at the big picture, and decide that you to can be that happy, that loved, and that joyous about life if you’ll just make the right choices! Your family is an inspiration daily to those who may need just a little lift to make it through a rough day! Again I say to everyone that reads this, and wonders, I know it’s hard to believe, but the Bates are even better than advertised! God Bless, and Thank You, your friend Jeff!

So excited to see that your website is up and running. And I guess that I am not the only one
Your family is such a blessing to me. And I love to see how God keeps blessing you and using you for His glory. I wish that I would have trusted God on how many children He wanted me to have, but we still have hope for more “blessings”. If not, we know that we have taught the children that we do have to trust in the Lord with everything. And I am very excited to see what the Lord will do in their lives. Continued blessings be upon you and your family.

i just wanted to take a minute to thank you for your ministry at the Morning Point home in Clinton. My sister told me she brought our Mom back to the facility while you and your family were there, and because Mom has begun to have memory problems and doesn’t always know what is going on … Mom walked straight up to you while you were speaking and interrupted your talk. My sister said you were gracious and patient with her beyond the call of duty. Thank you so much for visiting there with your loving family and thank you for what you mean to my Mother in her later years.

Dear Mary Ella, Thank you for your concern. We are all safe! Our hearts are burdened for so many who have experienced suffering due to the many natural disasters that have caused so much destruction this year! May God pour out His grace to these families and may we all continue to be sensitive to their needs – physically, spiritually, and emotionally! God bless, Kelly

Your humble spirit is convicting and inspiring. I notice that you didn’t include your own messages under the IBLP heading. We have learned so much from you through them! Each time we are exposed to your family through various media, we are blessed and encouraged. Thank You!

Thank you for this list. My husband and I felt convicted by the Holy Spirit to discontinue our use of birth control after the birth of our 2nd child and after our 1st miscarriage. We now have 3 angels in Heaven and 5 miracles here and look forward to what our Saviour has in store for us. We just completed our 1st year of homeschooling as well, something else I felt led by God to do. It is such an encouragement for me to visit your site and read up on your precious family. Thank you for allowing us a small glimpse into your lives. May God continue to bless you and your beautiful family. ~The Spauldings (Adam, Kristine, Hunter, Klaira, Riley, Nevaeh, & Josiah)

Those prairie dresses the girls make are beautiful and modest. It is close to impossible to find modest dresses. Would you ever consider selling the patterns? Thank you kindly! Laurie Packard
By Patti, August 26, 2011 @ 2:54 am
Thank you, Bates, for your faithfulness. I wanted to especially encourage Tinitia with older students. While we did homeschool from the beginning we didn’t find ATI until our children were in highschool. It was such a blessing to us, and by God’s leading and wisdom has had a powerful impact on our children even though we started “late”. You have to handle it a bit differently than with young children – but I know it saved our children from several disasters and helped them with heart issues. If the heart isn’t in the decision then the behavior is just superficial and hypocritical – a training ground for rebels. But with a heart that puts God and character first then it is an amazing journey.
Blessings,
Patti
By Gil, August 26, 2011 @ 3:17 am
Dear Laurie,
We’d give them if we had them, but Michaella sews without a pattern. Try looking in the costume section of the pattern book… A girl we know sewed beautiful dresses using old fashioned patterns found in that section. Love, Kelly

From India here…In a society inhabited by irresponsible parents who consider their kids an impediment to the pursuit of their own pleasures, it was heartwarming to read your story. It reiterates the truth that God has his witnesses in every place on the face of the earth who are exhibiting his love and living his commandments–which are not burdensome–in their day-to-day lives. God bless you all.

Aloha Bates,
I love watching you on 19 kids and counting and I love your website. Thank you so much for recommending the sermon entitled “Who is Ahithophel? (A Portrait of Bitterness)” by Pastor Schettler. I was up late one night and it was such a blessing to me I could not contain my excitement about this sermon. I e-mailed the link to all my family and couldn’t wait to tell my husband about it in the morning. Thank you so much for strengthening my walk with Jesus Christ.

Dear Sydney,
My heart goes out to you. I lost my father 7 years ago, and it was a very heartbreaking time for our whole family. We were able to take hope in knowing that we would see him again one day in Heaven, since he was a believer. May god draw you close and strengthen you. Love, Kelly

Hello Bates Family,
I happened to watch an episode of 19 Kids and Counting on TLC, and I wanted to comment that I am very encouraged by your family. I used to live in Knoxville, and it makes me smile to see that your family is from the area.
By Hannah, October 27, 2011 @ 4:45 pm
Dear Bates family,
My name is Hannah Johnson. I’m 20 years old and from Maryland. I would just like to say that I love everything about your family, as well as the Duggar family. From the moment I saw both the Duggars and your family on TV,I feel like God has called me to live my life like yours. Even from a very young age I had always wanted my family to be “old-fashioned” and closely bonded the way yours is. I would like to be able to meet like-minded people but I am at a loss as to where to find them. I am at that point in my life where I am thinking about the future and how I would like to start my own family, but where I live there are very few conservative Christians that share my beliefs. I want so badly to be able to talk to families that have similar beliefs to you. Is there any way that you can direct me to people that I can talk to with your beliefs? I pray that you will answer me back! God bless your family!
Love, Hannah

Once I realized it is gods will, it inspires me to watch your family from time to time on the TLC show with the duggers. Your family and the Duggars are so inspirational to my husband and I. We have recently come to the desicion to also allow the Lord to bless us with as many children as he will. (We currently have three and have started homeschooling as well. Unfortunatley we do not have anyone around us who are supportive and our families for lack of a better word think we are crazy. My husband and I are praying that we will meet another family who are like minded in their faith and family that we may gain courage from one another. So far we have yet to meet another family. But again we are truly thankful to know about you and the duggars who love the Lord and trust him completley. Mat the Lord continue to bless you!

Hi everyone,
In case you didn’t get my other e-mail, I just wanted to let you know that I love what your family does in serving the Lord. God is
blessing your family in a mighty way!!! I’m proud to see the girls in skirts & dresses. They are following biblical principles for sure. I also wear dresses & skirts all the time & am quite happy. I found it in the Bible & have followed it ever since. It makes me happy to see how your family lives on a daily basis. It bring honor & glory to God & His wonderful name.

Hi Guys – i just am amazed by your family – the love and respect addicting to watch I guess cuz there is so little in the world today. I am a single mother to a 27 year old son, I tried raising him in the ways of the Lord but he was drawn to the world of drugs. I’ve almost lost him a few times and am not sure what I did wrong – he really is a good man – he has a tremendous amount of pain inside i guess because of the rejection of his father – he left us when he was 2. So I struggled to raise him financially but I felt I was always there for him…he was my priority. Now it seems the world is caving in on him…please pray for his release from the life of drugs of addiction. I would appreciate it.

Our God us an awesome God! It’s a blessing and encouragement to see God at work in your family’s life. I see Mrs. Duggar and your friendship…what gift to have someone like minded to share life with. My husband and I got married 8-26-06. In January of 2007 we gave God control of when and how many children we would have. Since then we have been blessed with a daughter living with us on earth, a daughter waiting for us to live with her in heaven, and a son now 4 months old! God has been so gracious with our family! Romans 8:28 has been proven true in our lives. Kelly, have you and Gil lost any children? How has God used that for good in your lives?
Your sister in Jesus,
Jordan
By Gil, January 30, 2012 @ 4:04 pm
Dear Jordan,
We’ve had 3 misscarriages. Two were very early on and one was at 10 weeks. The Lord used it in our hearts to remind us how valuable and precious each moment with our children really is. He also used it to show how many other hurting parents, siblings, and families are experiencing similar trials. Through it all, we grew closer as a family and to the Lord! Love, Kelly

By Sarah, February 10, 2012 @ 5:34 pm
Hi Bates family,
Firstly, congratulations on your baby boy! He is adorable! I pray you were able to make it home without too long of a stay at the hospital.
I really just wanted to say thank for sharing your life with others. I am so inspired by you all, your family size, and your faith. My husband and I got married December of 2010 and welcomed our first daughter nine months later in September 2011 (she is now 5 months old). We are excitedly awaiting the time that the Lord blesses us with another! We believe that God will never give us more than we can handle and that that goes for family size as well. Your family is living proof that having a large family is possible.
Again, thank you for your openness and willingness to share.
Blessings,
Sarah
